Project Business

Allianz Partnership with Young Enterprise London.
The chosen programme was Project Business over a period of 18 months in five schools across the regions of London.

What is expected:

Throughout the Pathway Programme, in the team you will focus on adding significant value to Young Enterprise, the designated organisation they will be working with.

This forms an integral component of the Pathway Programme and has been designed to enable them to:

• manage a complex project from scoping through to implementation

• develop skills in stakeholder management, particularly in the management of expectations

• deliver a project that benefits the partner organisation, Allianz and the participants

• develop teamworking and leadership skills

• enhance self awareness as an individual

One of the challenges they will need to manage as a team is what they focus on, how much time they expend on the activities and what benefits they realise for Young Enterprise, for them as a team and for Allianz. They are genuinely in control. This in itself sets out some key challenges.

Project Deliverables

The work that they will be undertaking with Young Enterprise will be clear, insofar as it will relate to a specific programme of education.

They will agree the number of programmes that they will run, and at what locations. As a team they will be expected to share the responsibility so that they all have the opportunity to deliver programmes to a high standard.

Against this background, they will need to consider:

• How they will work together as a team

• How they can ensure they learn as well as “do”

• How they will work with Young Enterprise

• How they define success, and manage against those definitions

• How they balance their responsibilities in respect of this project in line with their day to day responsibilities

“We presented at Leytonstone yesterday and I did my first presenting (Business and Investors, incl. the shareholding game...)
I was a bit nervous but it went ok and I was fine afterwards, could do it again (better!)! Just thought Id let you know :) Feeling happy about it today.

We got very good feedback, I think we did you proud, Tony kept us on track with time and jumped in if we needed him.” (Julie Cutmore, Allianz)

Personal Economics

Team Challenge which involved Goldman Sachs staff at Norbury Business and Enterprise College. Eleven colleagues joined Year Nine students as part of their PSHEE programme. The Goldman Sachs colleagues joined groups of students and worked with them throughout the day on the Personal Economics sessions enriching them with their experience in the investment world.

“I really enjoyed the day with the staff from Goldman Sachs and I did not realise how much maths I would use during the day.”

In Business with the Games

This new programme was piloted in East London Region with year nine students. The programme’s objectives were to look at the Impact of the Olympics on London. The students spent a day involved in Business, job and wealth creation through a number of activities and games. They competed against each other throughout the day.

The students comments were:

“it was an excellent programme…well structured and each session linked with the next. Liked the card game. The product manufacture was the highlight of the day, and enjoyed giving presentations. Really enjoyed designing the games especially as they had to play the game as part of the activity.”
