Last year I entered a ‘Mini-Enterprise competition’ and my team came second; I really, really enjoyed it and it made me want to sign up for the full programme.

Up until that point I had really bad time keeping and just couldn’t get myself organised. YEL helped me improve that and I also picked up a load of new skills; web design skills, designing in general and presentations- I even came up with a new idea to build the stands!

What was so good about this particular programme was it gave us a lot of freedom and we could do absolutely anything we wanted and because we’re dealing with real money, it taught us how to manage money properly. We had to come up with our own funding, some of which we got with shares for capital and had a few fundraising events. And to pay for the cards we got a loan from my parents.

I have loads of opportunities that I wouldn’t have had and also got some team building skills, which will help me a lot in later life.

I want to someday go into business for myself, maybe open a gaming business of some sort as that’s what I love. To others I would say, ‘get on board because it’s a lot of fun and you develop new skills but mostly it’s fun!
