Volunteer Time Commitment
Training: 2 Hours
Programme Delivery: 2 day seminar
Enterprise in Action helps students to develop and test their enterprise capability through increasing knowledge, enhancing skills and fostering of entrepreneurial attitudes. Students gain hands-on experience of the highs and lows of working in a team to design, develop and promote a product.
At each stage of the process the students' understanding of key business and economic concepts is developed through practical activities and the use of ICT.
Content and delivery:
The programme is split into seven parts, or sessions. It can be run over seven weeks (1 session a week run in a double lesson) or as a 2-day programme, and is presented in-curriculum by a Business Partner and Teacher Partner.
The programme sessions are linked to the Enterprise in Action web site and students return to the web site at the end of each session to update their company's on-line record of progress developing their IT skills as they do so. They also receive from the site information and clues that are specific to their company, and which can be used to help them in the next session.
At each stage of the process the students' understanding of key business and economic concepts is also developed through practical activities and games.
The seven sessions of Enterprise in Action are:
Part 1: What does it mean to be enterprising?
Part 2: Creative thinking & planning
Part 3: Customer focus, research & design
Part 4: Costing, pricing & quality
Part 5: Building the product prototype model
Part 6: Advertising & promotion
Part 7: Review & competition
